Museums in Cholet
Cholet has a Museum of Art and History. It is divided into two parts. The first, devoted to history, traces the town's past from the Middle Ages to the present day, with a particular focus on the Vendée War, which had a major impact on the region. The second presents works by contemporary artists.
The Textile Museum is housed in a former canvas bleaching factory. It bears witness to Cholet's textile industry, which was the lifeblood of the town.
What to visit in Cholet?
The Church of the Sacred Heart is in the Romanesque-Byzantine style. Its construction began in 1937 thanks to numerous donations. Its carillon, originally made up of 39 bells, was recently renovated.
Notre Dame Church is a listed historic monument. Originally, it was a priory. Over the centuries, it grew to become the church it is today. During the French Revolution, it was used as a stable and a prison. At the end of the 19th century, the steeples were finally completed and now stand at 65 metres high.
Saint-Pierre church was built in the 11th century. It suffered several fires and was rebuilt. In 1933, it was topped by a statue of Saint Peter weighing 850 kg!

It is a tower in which salt was stored for the gabelle tax.
